| | | | | | | “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change.” Commonly attributed to Charles Darwin
The Class of 2026 demonstrated this lesson throughout their high school experience, learning how to respond to challenges in an ever-changing world with flexibility, resilience, and growth. Their high school experience involved navigating the unpredictable.
Our 2026 graduates are more adaptable and flexible than many of the classes before them. They didn’t sit back and wait for the world to make sense; they had to be proactively flexible. But while others might see uncertainty as a hurdle, they treated it as a training ground. And the data proves it. Recent national surveys from Gallup and the ACT show that despite the immense disruptions of the past few years, over 80 percent of this generation remains overwhelmingly optimistic about the future. They didn’t just “get through” high school. They built resilience, they remained steady on shifting sands, and they adapted to changing conditions.
Today’s high school graduates are constantly adjusting to the influences of AI and navigating a world of uncertainty. The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development recently noted that, in this era, success is measured by intellectual agility and the ability to solve problems with emotional resilience. That is exactly what Brunswick's graduates have done. They learned how to learn. They moved past memorizing facts and mastered the art of critical thinking. When "business as usual" was disrupted, they didn't wait for directions. They charted their own path through the continuous disruption of what was once considered “normal.”
Of course, our graduates did not navigate this shifting landscape alone. They are the product of an integrated community: teachers who taught them how to ask the right questions, families who provided steady ground, friends who walked beside them, and the support of the Brunswick community at large.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026. The world is unpredictable, but you are ready. | | | | | | | | The BJHS FLS class recently completed a science unit on the lifecycle of plants with the help of Six River Farm in Bowdoinham. Students planted and cared for seedlings at school before taking a field trip to the farm to help plant them in their fields. Everyone had a blast touring the farm and helping out with different chores. Back at school they were able to use some of the vegetables grown at Six River Farm in an Adapted Health lesson and taste test some local veggies. Huge thanks to Farmer Nate and Six River Farm! | | | | | | | | | Election Day is June 9th. Voting is located at the Brunswick Rec Center, 220 Neptune Drive. Parenting in the digital age can raise a lot of questions. Ever think to yourself: How much screen time is too much? When should my child get a phone? How can I as a parent help my child build healthy habits with technology?
If so, you may want to consider reading 10 Rules for Raising Kids in a High-Tech World written by Jean Twenge. As a psychologist and researcher in child development, technology and mental health, Dr. Twenge tackles the questions many parents are asking today. What is something you learned in the last week? It is very rare, but there are yellow Northern Cardinals.
