Dear Staff, Students, and Families,

I hope you are having a good summer.

We have had several inquiries about mask requirements in school facilities.  It is true that with the recent expiration of the Governor’s Executive Order, the guidelines in the Maine Department of Education Public Health Guidance are no longer required.  They are, however, still recommendations.

The Brunswick School Department has consulted with our medical advisor and decided that because of the continued health risks of COVID variants, because of the size and scope of our various summer programs, and because a large majority of the students we serve are not able to be vaccinated, we will maintain our current masking requirements on school property.  These requirements are:

  • All individuals, including staff and students, must wear face coverings when inside school buildings or on school buses.

  • Vaccinated individuals do not have to wear a face-covering indoors when they will not be in contact with unvaccinated individuals.

  • Individuals, including staff and students, do not have to wear face coverings outside when they can maintain social distance.

We will continue to monitor the health and wellness of our community and review our requirements as appropriate.

Thank you for continuing to support our efforts to maintain a safe community.

 Sincerely,

Phillip J. Potenziano, Ed.D.

Superintendent of Schools
