Once a month BJHS is going screen free!
Our first Screen Free Wednesday is September 30th! Students will leave their laptops in their advisory and will attend and participate in their classes without screens. Screen Free Monthly Wednesdays are designed to support face-to-face connection, understanding, and learning. Let’s give our brains a break from constant screen use and experience connection, collaboration, and creativity in new ways through discussion, hands-on activities, and shared moments in the classroom! Want more info on why screen breaks are helpful for growing brains check out: Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath or Jonathan Haidt.
Congratulations, Ms. Hemdal!
Congratulations to Ms. Hemdal, who has been named the 2026 Middle Level Health Teacher of the Year! We are so lucky to have Ms. Hemdal with us at BJHS. Her student centered pedagogy combined with teaching students the skills they need to be healthy adolescents makes all the difference. Way to go!
Ms. Hemdal will receive her official recognition and celebration at the annual Maine Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance conference in November.
