Happy Pride Week at BJHS! Did you know that Pride parades and festivals started as a commemoration of an uprising against bigoted laws and police violence? In the summer of 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York city, trans activists including Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera led a revolt against the frequent raids of prominent gay establishments like the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich village. Today’s festivities are much more celebratory, as we look back on all the positive progress made by activists who came before us.
If you haven’t already, please check out the Ally Pledge in the cafeteria to show your support of our LGBTQIAP+ students, staff, and families.
