What's Happening at BHS

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024 - Today is a ORANGE day

Auditions are open to all current BHS students, as well as all incoming 8th graders.

There are no prerequisites for the audition, and all that is required is to prepare 30 seconds to a minute of your favorite song!

The Chamber and Treble Choir are Brunswick High School's Honors Choirs, which perform in all of our BHS Chorus Concerts as well as travel for trips and festivals abroad. They have performed throughout the Brunswick community and the state of Maine, as well as in New York City, Washington D.C., Disney World, and even Fenway Park! If you enjoy singing and performing, then this is the place for you! Singers of all levels are encouraged to audition!

If you would like to be a part of the BHS Choirs, but you do not want to have to go through the audition process, simply add Concert Choir to your schedule for next year! All are welcome and no audition is necessary!

Please contact Mrs. Albert with any questions! aalbert@brunswicksd.org

Some things to mention: The design does not say BHS Pride Club so that anyone can purchase and wear it around, especially in the month of June! There are also several options for what type of shirt you may want (regular tee, long sleeve, hoodie, crewneck sweatshirt).

Also, we have a Give Butter account linked on the form for online payment, or you can drop off payment at BHS, or give your payment to Ms. White or Ms. Poirier.  When the shirts are in, you can pick them up in your flex or in the main office.

Thank you in advance if you decide to order a shirt.  We are so honored to be able to interact with all of you amazing fellow humans.

Sincerely,

BHS Pride Club

If you didn't already hear, there will be a total solar eclipse passing through Maine on Monday, April 8 around 3:30 pm! Although Brunswick is not in the path of totality, we will get a magnitude of ~97% which is still pretty dang cool. We will be hosting a viewing party after school here at BHS to watch it safely. If you are interested in attending, please fill out this google form so that we can make sure we have enough glasses. Email Mrs. Ostrov if you have any questions.

Eclipse Safety: The sun will not appear as bright during the eclipse but that does not mean that it will be any less harmful if you stare at it! We do not have pain receptors on our retinas so without protective eyewear, you run the risk of permanent damage to your retina and cone/rod cells. Regular sunglasses are not safe for viewing the sun; make sure your solar eclipse glasses comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Check out Total Solar Eclipse Safety from NASA to learn more.

College Rep Visits are BACK!

Every month in the guidance office we have colleges from all over the country coming to BHS for college visits. This is the perfect time to start exploring colleges you or your student is interested in and ask questions. Please check the calendar with dates and times for each school visiting. A monthly update will go out in Google Classrooms and through ReachMyTeach. The visits are scheduled for one hour with the college representative and will take place in the guidance office. Please email Mrs. Boies at kboies@brunswicksd.org if you want to meet with the rep!

Please check out the past announcements for more Community Service, Scholarship, ELO, Job and Volunteer opportunities!

People Plus has several opportunities for students to get some community service time on the books.  We are looking for 20-25 high school students to help us with the event. The event takes place on Saturday, April 6th at the St. John's Community Center.

Here are the options for times, they could do one or a combination of the times or all of them if they would like:

Friday, April 5th 5-8 PM set up (will be fed dinner)

Saturday, April 6th morning set up 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM (will be fed breakfast)

Saturday, April 6th 4:00 - 9:30 PM Event

We would need the students to arrive at 4pm dressed in black pants, white shirts and sensible shoes. They would be helping with set up, food service, table clearing and clean up. We will feed them pizza at the event, and as a bonus we will send them home with a $5 Gelato Fiasco gift card.

Sunday, April 7th 8:30 - 11:00 AM clean up
