We are currently hovering somewhere between Earth and the stars! 🌎✨ Our students are having the incredible opportunity to speak live with astronauts Dr. Christopher Williams and Maine’s very own Dr. Jessica Meir straight from the International Space Station.

The energy in the room is electric as some of our 5th graders step up to the mic to ask their questions. It’s not every day you get to talk to a hometown hero while they’re orbiting the planet! 🛰️👩‍🚀

Students across HBS had a blast playing Feelings Charades! 🎭 From acting excited to showing confused and even afraid, every class jumped in to explore how we express emotions without using words. Such a fun way to build communication skills! 💛

Ms. Dugas’ 5th graders kicked off their descriptive writing unit with a fun twist! Students created an activity square about an activity they enjoy—describing it without ever naming it. Then, using a stack of everyone’s words, they chose one and coded their Bee-Bot to navigate to the matching square. Writing, guessing, and coding all in one activity!

Our classrooms spent time connecting and getting to know one another through fun conversation starters designed to build relationships and practice conversation skills. Students sat in two circles and shared answers to questions like:
🥦 “What’s the grossest food you’ve ever eaten?”
🐠 “Would you rather swim underwater like a fish or fly like a bird?”
👥 “Would you rather be around a bunch of people or by yourself?”

This activity helped students strengthen communication, practice active listening, and find new connections across their classrooms. We loved hearing their creative, funny, and thoughtful responses! 💬❤️

Our 3rd–5th graders created “Rainbows in the Clouds” after learning about Dr. Maya Angelou’s message to be a rainbow in someone else’s life. Students shared ideas like “smile at them” or “be funny when someone is sad.” Each class had its own unique rainbow design—bright with kindness and creativity! 🌈💛
